2009 PRC Outstanding Librarian

Prof. Candida Cabatu Agcaoili is PRC's Outstanding Librarian for 2009. She will receive her award during the PRC Awards Night on June 19, 2009 at the Manila Hotel. A native of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, and now residing in San Juan City, she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Education, major in Library Science, magna cum laude, from the University of Santo Tomas in 1950,and Master of Arts in Library Science from Holy Rosary College (US) in 1953. She served as Chief Librarian of UST and at the same time taught library science courses. She is one of the ten founding members of the Philippine Association of Teachers of Library Science (PATLS) in February 1964 and was elected founding president and later Adviser for so many years. She is also the first president of the Integrated Philippine Library Association, Inc. in 1973. At present, she is Library Science Area Consultant of the University of Santo Tomas Graduate School and Vice Chair of the Philippine Foundation for Library Scholarships, Inc. Her long track record of teaching library science courses deserve her a place in the Guinness World Records.
