The Ilocos Librarians Council conducted its very succesful "Seminar-Workshop on IFLA-FAIFE Internet Manifesto" last August 6-7, 2009 at Regional Educational Learning Center, San Vicente, San Fernando City, La Union. It comprised of Librarians, Teacher Librarians, and other Library Staff from the region.

We're very fortunate to have with us as one of the speakers a proud Ilocana, PLAI National President Mrs. Lilia F. Echiverri who gave a comprehensive overview of IFLA-FAIFE Manifesto and CPE/PLAI Updates. With her are the officers of Ilocos Region Librarians Council.

2009 PRC Outstanding Librarian

Prof. Candida Cabatu Agcaoili is PRC's Outstanding Librarian for 2009. She will receive her award during the PRC Awards Night on June 19, 2009 at the Manila Hotel. A native of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, and now residing in San Juan City, she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Education, major in Library Science, magna cum laude, from the University of Santo Tomas in 1950,and Master of Arts in Library Science from Holy Rosary College (US) in 1953. She served as Chief Librarian of UST and at the same time taught library science courses. She is one of the ten founding members of the Philippine Association of Teachers of Library Science (PATLS) in February 1964 and was elected founding president and later Adviser for so many years. She is also the first president of the Integrated Philippine Library Association, Inc. in 1973. At present, she is Library Science Area Consultant of the University of Santo Tomas Graduate School and Vice Chair of the Philippine Foundation for Library Scholarships, Inc. Her long track record of teaching library science courses deserve her a place in the Guinness World Records.

FIRST COUNCIL MEETING

To sustain its mission for the librarians, members of the Ilocos Region Council met at the Multimedia Library of Saint Louis College, City of San Fernando, La Union on March 17, 2009 and revisited issues and concerns facing the librarians of today.

Sperheaded by President Dante Perez, the council was able to addressed all the agenda that were brought-out during the meeting, including the turnover of records and the existing fund of the organization, the proposed seminar/workshop that will be administered during the first quarter, the increase in membership dues and the like.

No. 01, Series 2009

IMPLEMENTATION OF THE INCREASE IN MEMBERSHIP DUES.

WHEREAS, Article IV, Section I (Dues and Fees) of the By-Laws,
authorized theBoard to increase the annual membership due to be determined by
the Board;

WHEREAS, that Resolution No. 13, Series 2008, “Implementation of the
Increase in Membership Dues from Two Hundred Pesos (P200.00) to Three Hundred Pesos (P300.00)” was approved and implemented by PLAI Officers and Board 2008;

WHEREAS, that increase of membership dues has been disseminated by
PLAI Officers and Board 2008 through its Regional Chairs and Members;

WHEREAS, that some Regional Chairs and Members have not been
received and disseminated the information;

NOW THEREFORE, be it RESOLVED, that PLAI Officers and Board
2009-2010 approved and adopted the same resolution.

RESOLVED FURTHER, that Resolution be strictly implemented effective
2009.
